Linking Together for a Cure

We walk to raise awareness, and to honor and support family members, friends and colleagues who are battling one or more of the more than 100 autoimmune disorders. We walk to give hope to the 50 million affected nationwide.

Funds raised through the Autoimmune Walk will be used by AARDA to support critical research aimed at solving the underlying immune issues that link ALL autoimmune disorders. Our mission is to eradicate these serious and life-threatening diseases while providing help and hope through patient education and support services.

In August of 2015, actress Haley Ramm and her mom Barbara, who is an autoimmune patient and advocate, approached AARDA to see what they could do to help. When AARDA asked if they would be willing to start a walk in LA, they said "yes!"

The Ramm family has cared for and helped so many people, including other young actors, that it took little time to assemble a crew willing to accept the challenge of creating the inaugural event.  With their help, and the help of some committed AARDA supporters, it was a huge success and has been successful ever since.

AARDA will be forever grateful to The Ramm Family.

Emmy-nominated Actress Kellie Martin has been a National Spokesperson for AARDA for many years and has served as our National Walk Ambassador since 2012.  Kellie continues both roles this year, lending her considerable talents to the cause.

Drawing on her family's experience (her sister Heather passed away at age 19 from complications of a misdiagnosed case of lupus), Kellie works to raise awareness about autoimmune disease as a major women's health issue.

She has advocated on behalf of autoimmune patients on Capitol HIll; participated in the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women; made Public Service Announcements and otherwise drawn attention to autoimmunity, and she has met with patients and families to share her story.  Widely known for her work on "Life Goes On," "Christy", "ER", Hallmark Channel Original Movies and "Hailey Dean Mysteries", Kellie has been featured on the cover of Reader's Digest as a national Health Hero, and in a Lifetime Television Intimate Portrait about her work with AARDA.  And, in 2014, she had her first novel, "Madam", published by Penguin Group.

Thank you, Kellie, for all you do in support of the AARDA mission!

Joining 2017 Walk Ambassador Haley Ramm on the Red Carpet was noted singer-songwriter Cody DiGerolamo; and talented actors Charlie McDermott ("The Middle"); Grace Kaufman ("Man With a Plan"; "The Last Ship"); Aisha Dee ("The Bold Type"); Henry Kaufman ("Major Crimes"); and Madison McLaughlin ("Arrow")!  Our thanks to all for helping us put autoimmune disease in the spotlight!
