Thank you for visiting my Autoimmune Walk personal fundraising page!

I am excited to be supporting AARDA through the Autoimmune Walk. More than 50 million Americans suffer from autoimmune diseases.

That's 1 out of every 5 people in the United States!

I am one of those 50 million American's as I was diagnosed with Relapsing Polychondritis "RP" in Jan 2015.

Relapsing polychondritis is a disease characterized by autoimmune-like episodic or progressive inflammation of cartilage and other connective tissue, such as the nose, ears, tracheal bronchial tree, joints, kidneys, and heart.

As Relapsing Polychondritis advances, it causes more dangerous symptoms such as deterioration of the cartilage that holds the windpipe open. Progressive disease can destroy the integrity of the airway and compromise breathing. Destruction of the rib cartilage can collapse the chest, again hindering breathing. Joints everywhere are involved in episodes of arthritis, with pain and swelling. Other tissues besides cartilage are also involved, leading to a variety of problems with the skin and other tissues. Occasionally, the aorta or heart valves are damaged as well as nose and ears.

The disease may occur in episodes with complete remission between, or it may smolder along for years, causing progressive destruction. There currently are no tests to diagnose, unspecified treatment options and NO CURE.

"RP" has manifested in my tracheobronchial tree which brings on daily challenges to complete some activities due to shortness of breathe, coughing and fatigue. Despite my limitations I am focusing on making a difference, doing my part to assist in spreading awareness, raise funds, participate in research and supporting the autoimmune community.

The Autoimmune Walk is one of AARDA's efforts to bring together families impacted by autoimmune disease to raise much-needed funding and awareness -- because together we can accomplish far more than any of us can on our own.

Please register to walk with me OR make a donation to help me reach my goal!

When we link together, we are stronger! When we link together, a cure is closer!
